Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 19, 2026
The Curated Quill LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Echoes of the Mighty Eighth, a Plume & Parchment publication, at the website 8af.echoes.news. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA (CCPA/CPRA).
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is The Curated Quill LLC, publisher of Echoes of the Mighty Eighth. For any privacy request or question, contact legal@echoes.news.
Information we collect
- Information you give us through our forms. When you subscribe, dedicate a tribute, contribute to a Tailwind, sponsor a book or season, or otherwise use one of our embedded forms, we receive details such as your name and email address, and — for contributions — the payment details needed to process them. These forms are provided and processed by HighLevel / LeadConnector.
- Information you give us by email. When you email us, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include.
- Analytics data (only with your consent). If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, pages viewed, and how you navigate the site. Analytics is off until you opt in.
- Technical logs. Our hosting provider may automatically log IP addresses and request data for security and reliability. These are essential to operating the site.
We do not run user accounts, we do not let you upload content here, and the contributions we accept are dedications and sponsorships rather than the sale of products. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16.
Why we use it and our legal basis (GDPR)
- Sending the newsletter and stories you subscribe to — legal basis: your consent.
- Processing tributes, Tailwind contributions, and season/book sponsorships — legal basis: performance of a contract or steps taken at your request.
- Responding to enquiries — legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you.
- Analytics and measuring site use — legal basis: your consent (you can withdraw it at any time via “Cookie Preferences”).
- Security, fraud prevention, and keeping the site running — legal basis: our legitimate interests and legal obligations.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies. Non-essential cookies (analytics) load only after you opt in through our banner. Embedded forms, podcast, and video players may set their own cookies when you use them. For the full list, categories, and durations, see our Cookie Policy.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site and the publication, and only as needed:
- HighLevel / LeadConnector — processes our embedded subscribe, tribute, Tailwind, and sponsorship forms, including the payment details for contributions.
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) — website analytics, only if you consent.
- Embedded media providers (YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and our podcast host Transistor) — when you play embedded content.
- Hosting provider — to serve the website.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, and in connection with a business transfer.
International transfers
We are based in the United States, and some of our providers (such as Google) process data in the U.S. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on the transfer mechanisms put in place by the service providers that process it (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent approved safeguard).
How long we keep it
We retain subscriber, tribute, and email correspondence for as long as needed for our legitimate business purposes; we do not apply a fixed retention period, and we delete or anonymize records once they are no longer needed. Analytics data is retained for up to two years.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to our processing of your personal data; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it; to request access and deletion; to correct inaccurate information; to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell your personal information. See Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information for the opt-out, which also disables analytics.
To exercise any of these rights, email legal@echoes.news. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by law.
Data security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date above reflects the latest revision.
